A few months ago, my girlfriend and I were on a mission at the mall – to go for a power walk covering 5 km in 45 minutes. Okay, that wasn’t our true mission. The real mission was to do our power walking without stopping at any of the stores to shop.
We quickly learned it’s best to go for our power walk AFTER the stores were closed! That night the SALE signs and tantalizing window displays at The Mall were not our only distractions. Mere minutes into our walk, two guys caught our attention as they walked toward us.
There was nothing particularly interesting about them, except that they seemed to be causing a commotion with the people they were stopped to chat with. As we approached them, my friend and I realized they too were on a mission: to share their faith with people.
Now think back to when a well-meaning Christian shared their faith with you. How did that conversation go? What was their approach? Did you find the conversation compelling? Inspiring? Did it change your life?
Stopping to observe these guys in action, we heard them approach total strangers:
“Hi, my name is _________ and this is my friend ____________. Can we ask you a question?”
And, without waiting for a response, they continued. “Do you know Jesus as your Savior?”
To which one guy retorted, “Oh, for the love of God!”
Brushing them off, he continued walking, clearly annoyed. Another unsuspecting couple were approached with the same question.
They shook their heads, sneered at the two ‘evangelists’ as they walked away with disgust on their faces. Undaunted, the two continued to approach anyone who came into their path. While there is no cookie-cutter approach to sharing our faith with others, this is certainly one way to do it.
Surely, these guys deserve a “10” for boldness. However, what works for some may not necessarily work for others.
What if there were other more winsome approaches in sharing our faith in Jesus with others?
What if you could understand the roadblocks to people believing in Jesus that exist in our culture?
In the Essential Story, you learn how to capture the heart of God’s story and to be able to articulate it through your own story to those who do not yet know Him.
Join us at the next Essential Story workshop and gain a better understanding of how to effectively tell God’s story in a way that wins people to Jesus – “for the love of God.”
“…if someone asks about your hope as a believer, always be ready to explain it. But do this in a gentle and respectful way.”
